NIKON OPTICAL LENSES AND COATINGS

DIGITALLY OPTIMISED NIKON SINGLE VISION AND MULTIFOCALS  FRAME TILT, WRAP SHAPE CUSTOMISED FOR YOU

Nikon lenses designed for computer vision syndrome and blue light toxicity and overall optical performance are just one example of Nikon venture beyond their famous camera lens.
Just as your favourite Nikon digital SLR has its cameras accessories, advanced spectacle lenses have coatings as accessories.
Just as mirrorless cameras have evolved, so have spectacle lenses and coatings such as the Nikon blue-blocking lenses for computer vision syndrome.

NIKON lens wear is famous for its optical quality. Nikon has a large portfolio of spectacle lens designs, just as not all lenses are the same from before the early DSLR ( digital single-lens reflex) to those in the latest Nikon DSLR camera bag, nor are spectacle lenses which have to be compared to be appreciated.

Our visual environment has evolved rapidly in the past decade-75% of us regularly engaged in multi-tasking across multiple screens and devices.
The considerable rise in myopia (short-sightedness) is also due to a lack of time spent outside.
Approximately 65% of digital users experience physical discomfort as a result of spending two or more hours in front of a digital screen^.

Computers, smartphones, etc., employ Light Emitting Diode (LED) backlight because it is brighter.
But due to user proximity and prolonged staring without blinking, the more intense the light exposure, the higher the risk of possible damage.
When staring at a computer monitor for long periods, align yourself so that your eyes are at the same level as the top of your monitor. You should look down slightly at the screen and wear prescribed lenses for the proper focus and filter.

Follow the 20-20-20 rule. Stand up from your desk every 20 minutes, look into the distance for 20 seconds and blink 20 times is recommended.UV exposure can be directly from the sun and also by reflections off buildings, glass, roads,  the ground and even off the back of your spectacles if not treated with UV protection.

UV-Vis Spectroscopy (or Spectrophotometry) is a quantitative technique used to measure how much a chemical substance absorbs light. This is done by measuring the intensity of light that passes through a sample with respect to the intensity of light through a reference sample or blank. This technique can be used for multiple sample types including liquids, solids, thin-films and glass.

Home&Office Neo’s design has been improved thanks to Nikon Optical Design Engine (NODE) optimisation. As a result, wearers can benefit from 11 % fewer aberrations, 48% wider intermediate vision and 41 % wider near vision than the original design.
Just as a Nikon DSLR employs the best designs and protective anti-reflective coatings, its camera body Nikon coatings can be utilised on spectacle lenses.

The H & O Neo standard 22mm progression is the same as the original H & O (which had 20mm progression), using 25% of the addition power in front of the pupil at the fitting cross.  The Long and the Wide are as the names imply:
• Long has only 15% of the addition power in front of the pupil, so giving a much longer focus at pupil height
• Wide is 40% of the addition power in front of the pupil, so the depth of field is less, but the wearer should have an excellent wide area for that distance.
• For different accommodation / binocular vision issues and occupational needs we can tailor different lens solutions eg Near = computer + mobile phone; Mid = computer + desk;Room = computer + around the office.

Nikon Blue Blocking lenses and multicoats for digital eye strain

Variation in macular pigment means that some people have more susceptibility to blue light and Macula Degeneration.
People with more sunlight exposure are more at risk of AMD, especially from the blue end of the spectrum.
This dose of blue light, as with UV radiation, is cumulative over our lifetime.

Blue light protection maybe even more important after cataract surgery as the lens can block some short-wavelength blue light as well — the type of blue light most likely to cause damage to the retina and lead to macular degeneration and vision loss.
Such as the SLR camera and DSLR camera has evolved with coatings so have spectacle lenses. The advanced digital camera of today has technology employed in modern spectacle lens coatings and designs.

So depending upon how much blue light protection the IOL provides, you might benefit from eyeglasses that have lenses with a special blue light filter — especially if you spend long hours in front of a computer screen or using other digital devices.

To “block” UV radiation, a substance must either absorb UV radiation by electronic transitions, strongly scatter UV radiation, so its intensity is reduced with penetration, or selectively reflect, refract, or diffract UV wavelengths away from a target area.

Multifocal anti fatigue lenses

Multifocal anti-fatigue lenses can be employed to relieve symptoms of visual fatigue brought on by long periods of close work, specifically on hand-held or portable digital devices. Computer glasses are often a workplace necessity.

Nikon lenses are available in darker tints for Sunwear use. Nikon lenses are also available in an array of lightly tinted lenses for that special fashion look. Not all tinted lens cut harmful UV rays

Just as cameras improve by firmware update and model upgrades, Nikon spectacle lenses as well have technological development continually.

Factors to consider between Nikon Soltes & Nikon H&O. Do you “Mostly Sit/” or Mostly Standing/Are you active in the office”?

Mostly Sit: Soltes Wide is preferred

SV Near replacement: Soltes Type 1 is preferred (very low shift, not much weaker power from near to intermediate) (e.g. for someone that reads in bed)

Computer/Desk/Multiple screens: Soltes Type 2 is preferred

Mostly Active/Standing/Some walking

H&O – Wide is preferred: for multiple screens, Monitors at eye level and seated at the desk but can leave on to walk around the office to printer etc. when dipping head

H&O – Standard is preferred: for low screens, e.g., laptops or standing desks looking down at it. Can wear for walking to café etc. without taking off. (e.g. someone in retail, a bank, a teacher.)

Home & Office 15%, 25% or 40% of the addition at the pupil height (Long, Standard, Wide) where power reduces above the pupil and increases below spreading the change across 22mm of the lens surface.

 2.00D(SW3)
 2.50D(SW4)
Reading Add -1/2 shift.
Eg Add +2.00 with SW2.
2.00-0.75=1.25D at pupil
Pupil centre is in the middle of the shift. Preferred head position for prolonged screen use. Shift is over 19mm for smooth power change
Home  and  OfficeIndoor Progressive Monocular distance PD’s,heights,Full Rx Pupil height as per Progressive lens. Does not have shift-just a range of Adds as per a progressive Distance Rx+ 1/4 Add
Eg plano Add+2.00
1/4×2.00=0.50D at pupil
Distance power =10mm above pupil
1/4 of the add at pupil centre
Full Add 16mm below pupil

The effective power changes take place over:

Nikon Soltes 19mm
Nikon Home & Office 22mm
Varilux Digitime, by comparison, is more compressed over 12mm from near to intermediate/working distance power (for direct comparison with Soltes and Home and Office) and 24 mm including the Ultra near power (+0.50D for the Near and +0.25D for the Mid version +0.12D for the Room version)
Nikon Spectacle lenses have sophisticated technology made famous by Nikon, albeit with camera lenses.

Home & Office 15%, 25% or 40% of the addition at the pupil height (Long, Standard, Wide) where power reduces above the pupil and increases below spreading the change across 22mm of the lens surface. The main differences between the Home and Office Neo and the original Home and Office are now  calculated using Nikon’s NODE system being fully aspheric-Available in three shifts (the standard is the most popular, and the other two are equally split in second place.)

People are not meant to drive in them, but some have been known to – a tiny drop of the chin means they get adequate distance vision – but they are not recommended for driving. The upgraded Soltes is to Soltes Neo Wide aspheric four shifts with NODE, CustomWrap, Tilt, BVD.

For a full progressive lens many design variations exist. The minimum progression length from Essilor and Nikon is 9mm and the max is 12mm – shorter than 9 creates issues with the intermediate, longer than 12 creates issues with finding the near.
Nikon defines their lengths in absolute terms i.e. the length to 100% of the add versus to 85% for Essilor lenses e.g. a Varilux X design short will be 9mm but an equivalent Nikon lens will be 12mm for the short version.
